In this week's show the boys sit down with Drew & Melanie Polak to discuss the up and coming Silver Puck Challenge hockey tournament at Patterson Ice Center. They talk about their life together on and off ice and what it means to be part of the Grand Rapids, Michigan hockey community. Drew’s Background: Drew played high school hockey for 4 years at Midland High School. Graduating in 2003 he took his hockey “prowess” to the intramural and beer league ranks while at Western Michigan University. Having siblings that also played hockey growing up there were lots of basement hockey brawls as well. While playing in a charity hockey tournament in Kalamazoo he met his wife Melanie (she couldn’t resist his sweet locker room dad bod).
Mel's Background: Melanie grew up with a brother that played hockey and was a huge influence on her. He’s a goalie and as Mel would put it, "I’m not a psycho though". She pretty much put the skates on the minute she was able to walk, and was in learn to skate around 3-4 years old. She would spend a good amount of time playing at Lakeland Hockey Arena in Waterford, MI (shout out to Dylan Larkin). After Lakeland, Mel played AAA for Belle Tire, Honey Baked, and Victory Honda. She then went on to play club hockey for WMU (with female ref extraordinaire Melvina!) during her time in Kalamazoo she got involved with the charity hockey tournament; Hockey for Life. This would be where she met the love of her life, her husband Drew.
Drew's Highlights: Drew, a two (2) time AEA champion; won his first AEA title at Silver Puck Challenge XIV (2018) with Team English. He would follow up his Silver Puck Challenge title with a victory at Hockey Hold'em V (2019); where he would raise the Kegger Cup with his wife. Drew is still in need of a Dekes & Dangles title to hold the triple crown of the AEA tournament circuit.
Mel's Highlights: Melanie is a three (3) time AEA champion; with titles being held at Hockey Hold'em IV (2018) & V (2019); as well as a Dekes & Dangles V (2019) pond hockey title. Melanie is still in need of a Silver Puck Challenge title to hold the triple crown of the AEA tournament circuit. She missed a great opportunity to claim an SPC title in 2018, but was unable to join her squad because of what is now known as . . . "The Haircut Incident."
